Working with a research organisation to increase its external research income

In 2017, Anne was invited to help the Robinson Research Institute at Victoria University to work on an MBIE proposal in the Endeavour round, to develop the world’s fastest superconducting machine. Since then, she has worked on half a dozen more proposals to various funds for the Institute, resulting many millions of dollars of research funding flowing in. This has transformed the Institute, which describes itself as ‘New Zealand’s premier research institute for superconducting magnet science and engineering’. The Robinson now employs many more scientists and engineers than hitherto, and has a large PhD programme. https://robinson.ac.nz/research/brochure.html

Helping an engineering faculty improve its PBRF success

In 2010, Anne was hired by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland to advise the Dean on research – and prepare the academics to the 2012 PBRF round. The result speaks for itself: of 152 research-active staff members, 37 academics received As and most of the rest Bs. The additional research income from PBRF has been ploughed back into researcher development.

Placing a book with a leading academic publisher

In 2020, Anne was approached by a physician who had decided to write a book to outline his philosophy on medicine and health – but didn’t know how to take the next step. Anne helped him develop the draft text and polish it until it was ready to submit to a publisher. Then she placed it with OUP Medical, the world’s leading medical imprint. The book, Positive Medicine, has been a success, and the author is working on a follow-up title. https://academic.oup.com/book/41212?login=true
